What do they see when they see the player?

Hi

I'm sure I can root around the files myself in a few days but I was wondering to see if we can talk about an aspect of the AI that I don't really see much talk on; that is what does the AI treat the player as an entity? Is it a rival kingdom? Is that how it bases any and all decisions to do with the player? "This is a unit from a player -empire- moving around" and so on...

How well could we manipulate this, maybe have the AI ignore the player exists within the game world, particularly at the level of empire management, anyway. Since I have ideas of creating a mod where the player doesn't rule a kingdom, instead playing a ragtag bunch of mercenaries or a single adventurer; on that spin, it wouldn't be good enough if all my actions as a single adventurer exploring the land was still perceived as an act from a rival kingdom with equal political status (when none exists).

I'm curious on this as well for making my own AI factions. I don't want them to automatically hate each other because one is considered a "Kingdom" and the other is a "Empire". This way each and every game played can start Truly "Fresh" and un-fold differently. Meaning certain AI's you fight against won't always get along or be enemies every time you see them.

Perhaps create a new allegiance 'Republic' ?
